About Me

Lucy Blunden, BSc. (Hons), BA (Grad RNCM)

So, what about me?  (aside from having the best job in the world)

The formal stuff: I have a 2:1 BSc(Hons) Herbal Medicine from Middlesex University which I am very proud of.

Gaining that degree was the hardest thing I have ever done. Not that it put me off… but, I had to re-work my brain’s way of thinking from the Arts (my first degree was in Music) to the Sciences.

I found some of it really difficult. I wasn’t used to writing factual reports on scientific data and outcomes of lab experiments! I learned and chose a lab-based project for my dissertation project and made a University first by using live human tissue in the lab.

When I graduated, I got a job as a herbalist in a shop in North London. I gave shop floor advice on herbs for acute conditions and dispensed herbal medicines. It was exciting and really challenging. I loved turning my brain inside out to find that piece of information which would help this person standing in front of me.

My dream as a student, was to return to work at the place I had studied. In 2013, that dream came true and I worked in the dispensary of The Park Clinic, Middlesex University‘s training clinic for the MSc students of Ayurveda, Western Herbal Medicine and TCM until the clinic closed in 2018. Since 2015, I have also been lecturing on the Western Herbal Medicine course.

I was so proud to be working as a medical herbalist in the University I trained at!

I moved to Hertfordshire in 2013 and love my less frenetic life as a Herts lass. 🙂
